This training course provides an introductory overview of the environmental indicators at mine sites (eg air, water, fauna, flora, land, waste and water). It describes environmental processes at mine sites and the characterisation of environmental media at mine sites. On completion of the course, participants should be in a better position to contribute to environmentally sound mining activities and to devise monitoring and rehabilitation programmes, and they will have a greater understanding of the long-term effects of operating and abandoned mine sites on the environment.
