Marie Kinsella, managing director of Australian Exhibitions & Conferences Pty Ltd, said the surplus number in attendance at the seminar broke records for all the harmonisation seminars held across Australia, including Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
The harmonisation seminar series on occupational health and safety incorporated presentations by Safe Work Australia, the Queensland Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Enterprise Connect but the information on legislation and the Work Health Safety (WHS) Act drew the biggest crowds.
Marie based the record number of attendees on the industry?s hunger for information about legislative changes in work safety. Another drawcard was that Queensland was the first State to implement the new WHS legislation (the Queensland Parliament passed the legislation on 26 May, 2011). She believed it had caused people to be proactive in their approach to the various seminars.
Aaron Anderson, partner at the law firm Norton Rose, conducted the legal presentation, drawing attention to the shift in emphasis from the employer-orientated legislation to that of the employee.
