Conveyed solution saves on costs and improves safety

A free-rotating belt on an inclined conveyor in a quarry site raised alarms for CBC senior sales manager Brenton Jones. The problem was caused due to a faulty gearbox and motor setup, presenting serious safety concerns.

The inclined belt conveyor had an old right angle worm gearbox, which would be costly to replace due to lower demands and inefficiencies. The solution, which the CBC engineering team suggested, came in the form of a redesigned and upgraded Bonfiglioli bevel helical gearbox with a TECO E3 IP66 mining spec motor.

‘Tension-free’ maintenance with Gates’ premium v-belts

A ‘set-and-forget’ drive solution was what a lime quarry in New South Wales was looking for when they contacted their trusted industrial suppliers, BSC, to help re-design a blower drive conveying aglime out of the quarry.

Matt Thornton, major account manager at BSC recommended the Gates Predator v-belts, which do not require any re-tensioning after the initial installation. The v-belts are also designed to allow for momentary slippage during overloads, without damaging the belt.
