Quarry supervisors and team leaders are being urged to register for an upcoming professional development webinar focused on managing workplace conflict and leading difficult conversations with confidence.

Hosted by the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA), the Managing Conflict and Difficult Conversations webinar will be held online on Wednesday, February 25, from 11:00am to 1:00pm AEDT via Microsoft Teams.

Supervisors in quarry operations face constant pressures, balancing production targets, safety compliance, and workforce management. Tensions can emerge from safety concerns, workload demands, or interpersonal issues, and if left unaddressed, these conflicts can negatively impact morale, productivity and overall site performance.

The two-hour session is designed to provide practical tools and strategies to help frontline leaders prevent, manage and resolve workplace tensions early. Participants will explore the foundations of conflict management, identify common causes and warning signs of team conflict, and gain insight into natural “fight or flight” responses that can escalate difficult situations.

A key focus of the webinar is preparing for and conducting effective difficult conversations. Through interactive online activities and small-group role-play exercises, attendees will practise proven conversation frameworks and discuss real-world quarry scenarios to build confidence in handling challenging discussions.

The course also highlights the broader benefits of constructive conflict resolution, including improved safety outcomes, stronger teamwork, reduced stress, and clearer communication across site operations.

Part of the IQA’s Supervising for Safety Leadership Series, the webinar is tailored for quarry supervisors, leading hands and team leaders seeking to strengthen their leadership capability.

Registration fees are $160 for IQA members and $210 for non-members, with membership options available online for those wishing to access discounted rates.

Places are limited, and industry professionals are encouraged to secure their spot ahead of the February session.
