According to The New Indian Express, Kathan, a 55 year-old lorry driver from Thiruvanaikoil, was hit by another sand lorry as it reversed, killing the man on the spot.
The local community, led by the man?s family, took the news of Kathan?s death badly. Locals ransacked the quarry operator?s offices, and then torched them.
Angry villagers then blocked the roads to the quarry, whose offices had burned to the ground. Police were called to the scene, who dispersed the irate mob.
Apparently, owners of the local sand lorries were facing off against the quarry owners, who they accused of only selling sand to other districts for a higher price.
