Charlie Eaton recently joined Multotec Australia as its business development manager for quarrying and aggregates in Queensland. She discusses her career so far and why working at Multotec has been a great fit.

What made you want to join Multotec and take on the new role?

I like the industry and the people in it, the people at the quarries are phenomenal as well, and the move to Multotec has been fantastic.

I wanted to be part of a company that invested in preventive maintenance and reduced downtime in quarries. Across the sector, I saw it as a real issue for operators. Customers were talking to me about issues such as wear on machinery, screen media, and liners.

Through the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA), I went on a site tour at Multotec and saw their wear liner products and realised that quarries could use them to reduce the need to constantly replace things like chutes and rockboxes.

I saw that Multotec had products that could address the types of issues customers were talking to me about, and how we could help customers understand when and how to fix them before they happen and prevent them from becoming catastrophic.

What trends are you seeing in the sector?

Every quarry I’ve been to has been high-producing and still selling materials, especially as people start gearing up for the Olympics [in 2032]. We’ll see new road developments and infrastructure due to the Olympics, and housing is increasing as the population grows.

Why is being involved in the IQA important to you?

Multotec’s involvement with the IQA was a major factor in my decision to join them. To see a company stand behind the IQA so strongly and do so much good for the industry was important to me.

It makes it feel like it is more than just a job. It means you can proudly stand behind the company that you work for, and they stand behind you. When that happens, everything works.

I recently went to an ‘In Her Boots’ event, and it allowed women the chance to tell their story of how they got into the industry.

That information and those stories can really ignite a fire in women to see that they can manage a quarry and do the things that traditionally weren’t talked about for us.

Each year, more women are getting involved with the Women in Quarrying (WIQ) network.

As they become more comfortable in the industry and realise they are welcome in it, the WIQ network can only get bigger.

What can we expect to see from Multotec in 2026?

We’re excited to grow further in the quarrying sector so that more operators can increase their productivity and reduce downtime.

Multotec has really focused on the quarrying sector recently after being a major name in the mining sector. We want to continue that, and it is a big part of my new role with the company. We’re going to reach out to anyone we think our products will help.

We’re looking forward to the IQA National Conference coming to Queensland and being hosted on the Gold Coast. Any chance to get together with everybody and celebrate the industry is always welcome.

In terms of the WIQ network for Southeast Queensland, we’re excited to see it grow next year. There will be more fireside chats, and we have had interest from many different companies about being involved next year. To see people reach out to us and want to be involved with the WIQ network is fantastic. •
