The typical quarry relies heavily on permanent employees for its day to day running. Holidays and staff shortages can create havoc without the right ?fill in? staff.
Penelope Resources employees are trained and experienced in quarry operations. This is important when considering labour hire. An operator familiar with the industry can adapt and integrate more easily than your regular labour hire operator who requires full training before they can safely complete the job at task. This slows production and upsets your workplace atmosphere.
Penelope Resources operators are experienced in a wide range of industries and can be seen in quarrying, mining, civil construction and rail projects.
Company founder Rebecca Horder says that what makes Penelope Resources distinct from regular labour hire companies ?is our personal service. Our phone lines are operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This gives clients the best opportunity to minimise possible machine downtime and the price is affordable, even to small quarry operations?.
Although its main role is to provide cost-effective labour hire, Penelope Resources offers other quarry and civil services. These include contract screening and crushing and load and haul solutions priced on a per hour or per tonne basis.
Rebecca Horder started her career in the mining industry before spending several years in the quarry industry and civil construction works. ?My experience in the field operating machinery gave me a sound knowledge of what?s required to make efficient, safe working operators within these industries,? she said.
Rebecca started the company in 2008 to provide the industry with much needed skilled operators at short notice. Her plans were to recruit, train and employ female staff to operate dump trucks, water carts and rollers. This grew to supplying skilled operators for other types of machines to fill the demand.
Three years on, Penelope Resources has built sound relationships with valued clients including Burton Contractors, Antqip and Howlett Civil and Mining, and is National Code of Practice (NCOP) compliant. This has allowed the company to work on major New South Wales Government infrastructure projects, including the Bluewater desalination plant in Sydney, the Hunter 8 Alliance, the Ponds development at Quakers Hill, the Southern Employment Lands Project in the former Prospect Quarry and the Liddell and Bayswater power stations.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROVIDER
Rebecca said that Penelope Resources? latest development will assist the quarrying industry. Due to a progressive shift towards nationally accredited qualifications, Penelope Resources is developing its own training school.
?A lot of our clients require nationally recognised qualifications for their dump truck operators and, as a result, we have initiated steps to fulfilling their needs,? she explained.
?It has been on our agenda for some time now. Early in the new financial year, our new training academy will be up and running. We run a three-day dump truck training course with a nationally recognised qualification. We will train with a specific emphasis on operator efficiency, machine safety, economy and productivity, which will be at a reasonable price and available for clients, existing staff and company employees. It will also provide our company with a basis for recruitment to fill our positions.?
These courses will be conducted in operating quarries in Sydney and the Hunter Valley. This will provide real working conditions so that trainees are exposed to actual on the job experience.
