R&M Crushing has turned to Striker Crushing and Screening to support its operational fleet.

R&M Crushing co-founder and manager Simon Mateljan had more than two decades of experience in the Australian crushing and screening sector before he took the leap and launched his own venture.

The business was founded in 2023 to provide contract crushing and screening services, as well as plant hire for quarries.

“An opportunity came up with my business partner, and we took a leap. I just felt the time was right to start up my own organisation,” he said.

Based in the Western Australian town of Harvey, with a focus on the Midwest Murchison region, the R&M Crushing team has travelled the length and breadth of the Pilbara region and even up to the Northern Territory for projects.

With just over 10 employees and a mixed fleet of mobile crushing and screening assets, R&M Crushing has maintained a nimble approach to business. When it came to making equipment decisions for the WA-based business, Mateljan knew that one manufacturer was at the top of his list.

“My experience with Striker Crushing and Screening equipment dates back 20 years – I’ve got a good relationship with them, and I trust their product,” he said.

“I’ve previously never had a choice on what equipment was used, but now I’ve gotten to a point in my career where I make the equipment decisions, so I choose Striker for its simplicity, durability and robust machines.”

Prior to launching his own venture, Mateljan had worked at several companies that used Striker’s crushing and screening equipment in their own operations.

Established in 1998, the family-owned and operated Striker Crushing and Screening has gone from strength-to-strength and operate manufacturing facilities in Western Australia, Malaysia and Thailand. It has a reputation for designing smart and robust heavy-duty mobile crushers and screens that can withstand harsh operating environments.

R&M Crushing and Screening has invested in Striker equipment for its fleet, either through purchasing or rental options.

Its current fleet includes a Striker JM1180 jaw crusher, a Striker CM400 cone crusher and several radial stockpile conveyors and transfer conveyors.

Mateljan said the machines are durable and easy to maintain, which are key attributes for a business that operates in remote areas.

“There’s a lot of shared componentry across their product range, in terms of off-the-shelf type items that can be found at your typical suppliers for things like bearings, belts, and hydraulic suppliers throughout the industry,” he said.

“Regardless of how the equipment has been treated in the past, you can be comfortable that the equipment will continue to perform into the future.”

Given the remote areas and tough conditions that come with R&M Crushing’s line of work, avoiding unexpected downtime is a major achievement.

Striker maintains an expert team of specialists who can provide customers with comprehensive after-sales and technical support across all their products, enabling customers to resolve issues quickly and return to operating at maximum capacity in no time.

It is a small but essential part of why R&M Crushing has continued to rely on Striker to supply assets for its mobile crushing and screening fleet and will continue to do so in the future.

“The support that you get from Striker is very personalised and all their staff have been in and around the business for a long time,” Mateljan said.

“If I’ve got a technical question, I can jump straight on the phone to the guy that’s been building these machines for 20 years. There’s no greater product knowledge in any manufacturer than what Striker has got in my experience.

“If I’ve got a need for more equipment – which I regularly do – the first conversation I always have is with Striker. I can guarantee that we will be investing in more Striker equipment in the future.” •
