Epiroc has focused on simplicity with its new drum cutter, the VC 2000, promising up to 40 per cent energy savings.

The VC 2000 will take the reliability, robustness and ease of use seen in Epiroc’s drum cutters to a new level.

The new “V” shaped design enables a cut with a flat base meaning no material is left untouched between the drums.

Unlike regular drum cutters that move side to side, the VC 2000 can create an even trench by moving straight across. This reduces extra carrier arm wear and makes it easier for the carrier to use.

This approach also means that the VC 200 cuts both energy consumption and maintenance time. Users can benefit from up to 40 per cent energy savings.

“We’re pleased to present an alternative that will save time and money in virtually every aspect, from investment to energy and wear on the carrier. And it’s all achieved by the angles of the drum,” Epiroc global business manager for hydraulic attachment tools Gordon Hambach said.

The VC 2000 will introduce many advantages such as fuel saving from the lower weight, simpler construction and up to 50 per cent reduction in maintenance.

Simple to operate, the VC 2000 will also eliminate the risk of oil contamination.

Previous customers of Epiroc’s drum cutters will be pleased to see the robust spur gears, adaptable high torque gear motor and the QuickSnap retaining system included in the VC 2000.

These attributes have become distinguishing features of Epiroc’s range.

Increasing the overall effectiveness of the VC 2000 is HATCON, a monitoring system that keeps track of operating hours, location and service intervals, presenting the information on any screen via MyEpiroc.

“Providing solutions that can help our customers reach new levels is rewarding, not the least when it comes to energy saving and sustainability. They inspire us to constantly rethink all aspects of our offer, and VC 2000 is certainly a result of that,” Hambach said.
