Epiroc has launched a drill protected by diamonds Powerbit X, reducing the amount of CO2 emissions per drilled meter by up to 90 per cent.
Epiroc has been a pioneer in the world of hard materials drilling and the new Powerbit X is no exception. The Powerbit X features diamond-protected buttons which help to prolong replacement intervals.
The results are less exposure to danger for operators, more uptime and lower CO2 emissions.
A large focus for Epiroc’s Powerbit X launch was safety. Every avoided bit change means less risk of slipping, falling and injury to backs, hands, and fingers.
Epiroc president, the tools and attachments division Goran Popovski praised the game-changing nature of the Powerbit X.
“The diamond-protected buttons gives the drill bits substantially longer service life than those with standard buttons as well as maximizes the drilling time, which means fewer changes, higher productivity and less exposure to danger for operators,” Popovski said.
Another feature of the Powerbit X is the productivity enhancement factor. The tool realises the full potential of remotely and automatically controlled drilling, with strategic business development manager Jonas Falkeström enthusing about the hours it can save.
“An operator can complete a single hole with only one drill bit. The alternative with in-hole bit replacements is time-consuming and quickly adds substantial productivity losses.
It is possible to save hundreds of hours by changing to this new technology using buttons protected by diamonds,” Falkeström said.
The Powerbit X has an extremely hard surface, making it possible to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions by up to 90 per cent compared to standard drill bits. As the tool has a long bit life, less energy and resources are consumed. Regrinding is also avoided, as the bit is recyclable once it wears out.
