This was the third major project Rocktec had designed and built for Stevenson Resources, and it was required to increase the production of asphalt and road building aggregates for the quarry operation.
The plant was a custom solution by Rocktec’s in-house engineering design team, which worked with the client to ensure the final design met all operational and maintenance requirements. A strong emphasis was placed on health and safety aspects, all of which were resolved during the design phase.
After the design of the process flow, the team developed a plant layout to match the client’s needs and fully modelled the plant in 3D. This layout had to utilise the available land space, which was over two levels.
Fabrication took place at Rocktec’s manufacturing plant in Matamata, Waikato, New Zealand.
The final plant consists of a 25-tonne live capacity hopper with a Rocktec F250B vibrating feeder, which feeds material via conveyors to either the Rocktec vertical shaft impact (VSI) crusher, or a Dry PAP screen.
{{image2-A:R-w:220}}From the VSI, material is conveyed to the Rocktec Avalanche 6000mm x 2400mm double-deck extra heavy-duty dry PAP screen. The crushed aggregate is then delivered to a pair of Rocktec Avalanche screens for washing and grading, and a 4200mm x 1500mm and a 3600mm x 1500mm triple-deck extra heavy-duty screen.
Wash water is transferred to the Rocktec 16-inch screw dewaterer, where fines are removed from the water. Products are stockpiled in six concrete bunkers. This tertiary plant has been designed and tested to process up to 200 tonnes per hour.
Rocktec designed and built the body of the VSI crusher to use standard OEM rotor and shaft line assemblies. It features an air transfer system to control dust, improved rotor access and two 150kW WEG motors.
“This prototype has been built on known parameters and we had no issues whatsoever with the commissioning,” said Jason Tapper, Rocktec’s sales and marketing manager.
“Everything with the first inspection was as predicted. We are very happy with the finished plant at Drury.”
Along with design and manufacturing, Rocktec has a site service team available for the mechanical installation and servicing of new plants. All its equipment complies with current Australian and New Zealand electrical and mechanical safety standards. Indeed, the company has more than 20 years of experience in the design and manufacture of quarry and mining equipment, and has completed a number of large projects in Australia.
