CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors and UGL have been selected for the design and pre-construction contract for the main works package on the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

As part of the ActivUs Alliance, CPB Contractors and UGL alongside ACCIONA, SMEC and WSP will work with Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail throughout this process.

“With experience in delivering transformational rail and metro projects in major cities, our team will safely and reliably deliver this next-generation rail line,” CIMC Group executive chairman Juan Santamaria said.

“The project will increase public transport capacity, improve accessibility, and deliver a more seamless, comfortable commute.”

The works include: an upgrade from two to four rail tracks from Kuraby to Beenleigh, including all civil works and civil structures, accessible station upgrades including park ‘n’ ride, kiss ’n’ ride and bus stop upgrades, removal of level crossings, upgraded rail systems and conventional signalling and enabling works for a European Train Control System, modification of the local road network and improved walking and cycling connections along the 20-kilometre project corridor and integration of the project with adjacent construction packages and into the existing rail network.

“CPB Contractors’ highly skilled local team will draw on our decades of experience delivering complex and city-shaping infrastructure, as well as our local partnerships, to build this game-changing infrastructure and support Queensland’s growing population and thriving tourism industry,” CPB Contractors managing director Jason Spears said.

“We look forward to continuing our collaborative engagement with local people, suppliers and businesses to ensure we maximise economic, employment and social opportunities for the community.”

The Alliance will now commence the design process and project planning activities and undertake further site investigations.

“UGL is a leader in the Australian transport sector with proven capabilities in large infrastructure construction, including complex mechanical and electrical installations on some of Australia’s largest transport systems,” UGL managing director Doug Moss said.

“We look forward to working alongside our alliance partners to deliver increased capacity for local residents and visitors to South-East Queensland, which will support population growth in the area and help the region to prepare for the historic Brisbane Olympics in 2032.”
