Cemex chief executive officer Fernando A. González has announced he will retire after more than three decades at the company.
González’s decision to call time on his career will see Jaime Muguiro become the new chief executive officer from April 1. Cemex’s board of directors has approved the appointment.
González said his time at Cemex had been the “most rewarding” part of his professional career.
“Serving our customers, employees, and stockholders has been a privilege and an honour,” he said.
“I am grateful to Rogelio and the board of directors for their trust and support over the years, and I am very proud of the great work the Cemex team has done to keep this company at the forefront of the building materials industry.
“Having worked alongside Jaime for over two decades, I know his dedication, leadership, and business acumen will be key to an even better future for Cemex.”
Muguiro has been at Cemex since 1996 and worked across its strategic planning, business development, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and human resources areas. Most recently, Muguiro has worked as the president of Cemex in the United States.
“I thank Rogelio and the Board of Directors for their trust, and Fernando for his guidance and leadership, both of great inspiration to me,” Muguiro said.
“I am looking forward to this challenge and to collaborating with our customers, employees, and stakeholders to continue building a better future and ushering in a new era of sustainable construction.”
Muguiro’s promotion has also triggered a wave of organisational changes throughout Cemex’s global operations.
The changes to Cemex’s leadership structure include:
- Jesus Gonzalez, current president of Cemex South, Central America, and the Caribbean, has been appointed president of Cemex USA.
- Sergio Menendez, current president of Cemex Europe, Middle East, and Africa, has been appointed president of Cemex Mexico.
- Jose Antonio Cabrera, former president of Cemex Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, has been appointed president of Cemex Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
- Alejandro Ramirez, current president of Cemex Colombia and Peru, has been appointed president of Cemex South, Central America, and the Caribbean.
- Ricardo Naya, current president of Cemex Mexico, has been appointed executive vice president of sustainability and operations development.
All of these changes will be in effect from April 1 according to Cemex.
