As the construction and aggregates sectors prepare for the future, CDE is hosting a webinar to explore market trends, regulatory challenges, and the innovations shaping the future of construction materials and the market outlook for Australasia over the next five years.
The online event will discuss the Australian and New Zealand construction outlooks, key policy drivers in areas such as housing, energy and defence and the implications for the construction materials industry heading into 2026 and beyond.
Speaking on the webinar will be Oxford Economics head of construction and infrastructure Adrian Hart, who has over 23 years of economic analysis and consulting experience focusing on the infrastructure, building, maintenance and mining industries.
Hart has undertaken a wide range of consultancy projects for the public and private sectors, drawing on his detailed understanding of the construction, mining, and maintenance markets, their drivers and outlooks, the organisations operating in this space, and the issues they face.
Ahead of the webinar, Hart said that there is a real rise in demand for sustainable construction materials.
“Real construction activity in Australia rose a further three per cent in FY25 to just under $300 billion (in constant 2022-23 prices). Construction activity is forecast to rise a further 14 per cent in real terms across the second half of this decade, with growth driven by major new investments in energy, water, defence, health and digital infrastructure, sustained transport spending, and a strong upswing in residential building – creating unprecedented demand for sustainable construction materials,” he said.
CDE head of business development for Australasia, James Murphy, said that this event will give industry professionals insight into how local markets will evolve over the next year, and how this may impact the construction industry across Australasia.
“Between 2026 and 2030, the construction industry in Australasia will continue to be shaped and influenced by factors such as the economy, labour markets and the accelerating push for sustainable building practices. We’re in a time where the demand for high-quality sand and aggregates continues to rise, and materials producers are putting greener practices at the heart of their operations,” he said.
“The webinar will open the door for discussion on how the next five years will look for the construction industry across Australasia, and we’ll focus on some key trends we expect to see across individual states and sectors.”
