Aquaflo Hire has expanded its hire range of plant equipment to support the water management needs of Australian quarry operators.

When disaster strikes, that’s when a quarry will be left scrambling for an emergency option.

In a sector operating on tight margins, unplanned downtime due to water management issues can be a considerable headache. Often, an expert is needed to get operations back up and producing again.

Aquaflo Pumps business development manager Chris McCulloch has been providing solutions for the mining and quarrying sectors since 1978. In that time, he has seen what happens when the pump is not adequately matched to the application; usually, it ends in disaster, and an expensive one at that.

“One thing I’ve come to realise over my time in the industry is that some operators think that every pump can do anything,” he told Quarry. “They’ll see a pump, chuck it in and think ‘away we go’, but then they notice that this pump is not pumping water.

“I would say most of the issues in the industry are related to selecting an incorrect pump for the required duty.”

That’s where Aquaflo Hire can assist quarry operators. The business specialises in finding the right hire solution, with options for emergency, short-term, and long-term options. Headquartered in Bathurst, NSW, and supported by its parent company, Truflo Pumps, Aquaflo Hire supports quarry operators across Australia.

It has invested in an expanded workshop and office space in Queensland to complement its head office and facilities in New South Wales.

In addition, Aquaflo Hire has significantly grown its range of plant equipment for quarry operators. This includes:

  • 200/180 skid-mounted stainless pumpsets for harsh water applications.
  • 250/200 skid-mounted pumpset.
  • 400/40 skid-mounted pumpset.
  • Excavator-mounted dredge pumps.
  • Land-based evaporator fans. These units excel in expelling excess water fast.
  • Down-draft evaporator fans. These units are ideal for environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Fuel cells, generators, lay-flat hose, pipe floats, pontoons, and ancillary items.
  • Remote telemetry systems that enable on-site remote troubleshooting and start/stop functions.

Water management at a quarry is never as simple as turning a pump on and walking away.

There are several factors to consider when selecting a pump, including the water level, discharge level, the vertical height from the water level to the pump, and more.

With so many variables in the equation, McCulloch said Aquaflo Hire’s expert team take a detail-driven approach with customers to ensure its solutions can solve their biggest pain points.

“Our expertise in hiring means that we will go into detail with the customer and make sure that they have the right pump for the job,” he said.

“This not only helps look after the equipment, but it also means that the job is done right. It all comes down to our knowledge of the product.”

Aquaflo Hire’s team is confident in its wide range of products for quarry applications.

In fact, during a recent site visit, a customer said they were amazed at how much more efficient Aquaflo Hire’s solution was compared to the site’s existing pump, as it moved twice the amount of water for the same fuel consumption.

In part, this is because most of Aquaflo Hire’s equipment is designed and manufactured by Truflo Pumps in Australia.

This means that customers not only have off-the-shelf solutions but can also access bespoke solutions for specific quarrying applications.

Truflo Pumps can be found in applications around the world, including in Indonesia, the Philippines, Africa, Canada, India and South America.

The design philosophy is simple: If they are built to survive in Australia, they’ll survive anywhere.

“The pumps are built by us. Our hire units are all backed, serviced and built by Truflo Pumps, which is a leading name in the market,” McCulloch said.

Meet the AquaBoss

A fundamental feature of all of Aquaflo Hire’s rental solutions is the AquaBoss Asset Protection controller. This platform has been built to maintain the pump’s operating parameters, offering significant benefits, chiefly by reducing the risk of unexpected failures and the associated downtime.

McCulloch said the AquaBoss control panel protects both the engine and wet-end, virtually eliminating the risk of cavitation and vibration-related failures.

The controller is user-friendly, with an intuitive design and dashboard display, allowing even novice operators to use its straightforward controls and be rewarded with simplified pump management that delivers powerful results.

The AquaBoss interface displays real-time data through a traffic light system that allows operators to see key operational information at a glance and make informed decisions.

The platform, which is a major innovation from Truflo Pumps, is available across nearly all of Aquaflo Hire’s rental range.

When it comes to water management, it pays to trust an expert with proven solutions.

“If you need a hire solution when it comes to water management, come to the experts,” he said.

“We will take a look at your problem and make sure it is solved correctly.” •
