OZ Minerals completed construction of the Carrapateena mine in early 2020.

Adbri has extended its supply of cementitious materials to OZ Minerals’ Carrapateena copper mine in South Australia with a $10 million contract.

The new deal will continue the companies’ relationship for another three years, with the option to extend to 2027.

Adbri managing director and chief executive officer Nick Miller said the bond between the companies was as strong as ever.

“Adbri is pleased to build on our long-term relationship with OZ Minerals,” Miller said.

“This contract is in addition to our existing agreement to supply the OZ Minerals Prominent Hill mine and demonstrates the strength of our local integrated manufacturing footprint serving the South Australian market.”

Adbri will not only supply cementitious materials, but also aggregates and sand from the company’s hard rock and sand quarries in South Australia.

Carrapateena is located more than 450km north of Adelaide, while Prominent Hill is a further 320km north west.

In December 2021, OZ began expanding its block cave at Carrapateena after approval for the expansion was received in February.

A new mine shaft at Prominent Hill was also approved in 2021 with construction beginning this year.

Adbri’s contract with OZ follows an extension with Alcoa of Australia in January, with only weeks to spare before the expiration of the prior agreement.

Adbri subsidiary Cockburn Cement will earn between $25 million and $35 million from the one-year deal that began at 31 January, 2022.
