Australian dealer combines the best of both worlds

An Australian dealer of mobile crushing and screening plant and equipment has developed a mobile platform that incorporates the best features of products from two European master builders: the Belgian-designed range of vertical shaft impactors (VSIs) and the renowned Swiss-designed GIPO mobile plant.

The Magotteaux VSI traditionally comes in three sizes – 2700, 2400 and 2100 – and all the units have can crush and shape in one pass.

The VSI can be placed in a fixed plant, removing the need for up to two cone crushers and the requirement for a separate VSI. This is by far the most popular option, saving upfront capital costs and long-term running and maintenance costs. The majority of the units are run electrically; modular and track-mounted mobile units are also available, fitted with diesel power packs.

One owner in Belgium, with the use of a single 2400 VSI static crusher unit with an electric drive and various static screens (both horizontal and inclined), produces about 130 tonnes per hour of aggregates. His raw feed from the primary jaw is 90mm, so he has no requirement for tertiary crushers or additional VSI-shaping crushers, and processes all his aggregates with the one Magotteaux crusher. This achieves savings that are hard to quantify!

Magotteaux, based in Belgium, started as a foundry in 1918. Today the company is recognised for offering “differentiated solutions against wear”.

It pioneered the use of composite materials in the manufacturing of high wearing products such as blow bars, impact plates and side liners for horizontal shaft impactors, and grinding media for mills, used throughout the mining sector internationally.

This patented technology, which combines an increased resistance to wear and shocks, enables Magotteaux to offer wear solutions that are differentiated from standard steel and iron foundry products. In turn, the success of this technology has allowed Magotteaux to grow into a company that today has more than 3200 employees, 28 sales offices and an annual turnover of $1 billion globally.

Australian crushing and screening plant dealer Screenmasters has been an exclusive distributor of Magotteaux products since 2001. The success of this longstanding relationship influenced Screenmasters to introduce mobile track-mounted VSI units to Australia. Several of these units are working in the country, and have provided excellent results.

Screenmasters partnered with GIPO Switzerland, manufacturer of the first track-mounted plants in the 1980s, to mount these units.

GIPO has built dozens of track-mounted VSI units for customers across Europe, so it was an easy decision for Screenmasters to pair the proven advantages of the Magotteaux VSI with the GIPO track-mounted platform.

Enter the GIPO Mag 2700 VSI! It is fitted with a double-deck, 4.5m screen and there is a unit currently working in Australia. Crushing in double shifts at a local quarry, this 2005 model has more than 12,000 hours, proving the outstanding build quality of these units. This unit’s simplicity of operation, combined with the Magotteaux wear parts, allows it to crush 100mm sandstone to 8mm minus with very competitive wear rates, guaranteeing production that is a cut above the rest. It can also crush 100mm basalt and produce aggregates.

The mobile units come in a variety of sizes, with or without screens. The screen attachments can be single-, double- or triple-deck, all placed in a closed circuit.
