GPS, laser and optical technology specialist Trimble Navigation Limited has acquired weighing systems and payload information systems provider Actronic Technologies.

Actronic Technologies is a provider of weighing technology and payload information systems for the construction, aggregates, mining and waste markets. Its most popular product is the Loadrite range of load weighing devices and payload information systems.

Trimble is a US company that applies technology to make field and mobile workers more productive. Solutions are focused on applications requiring positioning or location, including surveying, construction, agriculture, fleet and asset management, public safety and mapping.

“The acquisition occurred on 11 June, 2013 but Actronic will continue to operate as a legal entity, as part of Trimble,” Simon Rush, the global marketing communications manager for Actronic Technologies, told Quarry. “The Loadrite team will continue to be committed to the success of our customers with even broader capabilities and offerings to serve our customers. Customers will continue to be supported by their local Loadrite distributor for product selection advice, installation and technical support.”

Actronic Technologies’ Loadrite weighing system is for wheel loaders, excavators, conveyors and waste collection vehicles. Rush explained that with this acquisition, Loadrite can now extend Trimble’s Connected Site portfolio by adding “weight” as an element of information collected at the machine.

This extended capability will better enable contractors to use the Trimble Connected Site to achieve improved comprehensive real-time intelligence on asset and site productivity for a contractor’s mixed fleet.

Trimble’s Connected Site is an information architecture that optimises and integrates operations across the construction site and the office, enabling improved planning, advanced monitoring and greater productivity.

“Trimble’s acquisition of Actronic Technologies allows for a significant extension of the Loadrite distributor network into new territories and markets,” Rush said. “This extends our global support presence which is valued by both local customers and those with international operations. In the future, our customers will enjoy a wider support network, through the expansion into these new territories and markets.

“The Loadrite acquisition complements and extends the Trimble portfolio. As the two companies merge, so too will alignment occur between Loadrite and Trimble’s technology solutions.”
