Axle joint venture for wheel loaders

An Australian axle supplier is set to play an influential part in the Chinese wheel loader market.
ZF Australia Pacific Pty Ltd and LiuGong have created a new joint venture axle company in Liuzhou, China to service the Chinese market.

Both companies have worked together before. This new partnership will be called the ZF Liuzhou Axle Co Ltd and will make wheel loader axles tailored to the requirements of the Chinese market.

By 2018, the partnership is expected to produce more than 30,000 axle assemblies and employ around 190 people.

"Our co-operation with LiuGong strongly shows the 'Design to Market' strategy which has been consistently followed by ZF, especially in the field of off-highway systems,” said Wilhelm Rehm, ZF board member.

"During the past years, the country has experienced a rapid development of construction machinery,” said Dr Stefan Sommer, CEO of ZF.

More than half of the world’s production of wheel loaders are made in China, with a considerable amount exported.

LiuGong and ZF have been working to upgrade the existing axle models for LiuGong wheel loaders since October 2011. This has lead to a new modular axle concept that broadens the product’s applicationwhile reducing manufacturing costs.

Initial production from the Liuzhou plant is expected to be 3300 units in 2014, which will grow over time.
