Construction equipment sales growth in 2011

Construction equipment sales were up by 25 per cent for 2011 according to the KHL Group, a provider of construction information.
Since 2003 the company has been recording sales of the world’s 50 largest construction equipment manufacturers and called it the annual Yellow Table survey.

Last year was a record year for the industry with sales of US$182 billion surpassing the previous high set of US$168 billion in 2008 before the global financial crisis.

Still at the top of the ladder was US-based Caterpillar with Japan’s Komatsu in second and then Sweden’s Volvo Construction Equipment in third swapping places with Hitachi Construction Machinery.

Doosan Infracore of South Korea took the heaviest hit dropping three places to ninth while Terex (8th) and John Deere (10th) both gained two spots over 2010.

Chinese manufacturers and the US saw increased revenue while Japan went the other way.

Chinese companies have seen their revenues increase for six consecutive years. In 2003 China has a share of 1.6 per cent now they have a share of 16 per cent of the world market.
