US made stackers make mark for WA contractor

Western Australian distributor 888 Crushing and Screening Equipment has recently supplied a pair of 42m long x 900mm wide Telestacker conveyor units to Rapid Crushing in Perth. The Telestacker units are manufactured to Australian standards by Superior Industries, a US-based company with a fast growing client base in Australia. 

The two Telestacker conveyor units are currently being used to stockpile lump and fines iron ore at a mine site in WA. Each unit is capable of stockpiling at a rate of up to 1000 tph and each unit can stockpile up to 50,000 tonnes in a 90-degree radial arc. The units are fully PLC-controlled with several in-built programmes to give the user many different stockpiling options.

Superior Industries’ Pile-Pro PLC control facility enables any mine site or quarry operation to evenly blend crushed material without causing segregation and the automatic luffing ensures minimal degradation of the product during stockpiling.

The two units supplied to Rapid Crushing also feature a sonic scout sensor, which stops radial travel of the conveyor when no material is on the belt. This unique facility ensures there are no voids or gaps during the creation of the stockpile. Other standard features of the Superior Telestacker units include Navigator Return rollers and self-aligning top idlers to ensure the belt tracks centrally during the various loading positions while creating the stockpile.

Rapid Crushing are one of the largest crushing contractors in Australia with several major contracts at mining and quarry operations throughout Australia. Rapid Crushing chose the Telestacker units for their ability to blend the ore and stockpile without segregation, which is critical to the current site operations.

Features that Rapid Crushing compared against other suppliers included the overall strength of construction and safety features. The Telestacker units have been designed to Australian standards and also to withstand cyclonic wind conditions encountered in the northern areas of WA. With all Superior Telestacker conveyors featuring a patented FB (Fully Braced) undercarriage and the use of higher yield strength steel, the choice for Rapid Crushing was made easier.

The two Telestacker units were shipped in sea containers from Superior’s factory in Morris, Minnesota, to Fremantle Port in WA and then assembled by 888CSE in Perth. The units were delivered fully assembled by standard prime movers to the mine site in WA. “The fact that these units can be transported complete and set up within a few hours gives added flexibility to the Rapid Crushing fleet once the contract at the iron ore mine is completed,” said Glenn Irvine, the operations manager for Rapid Crushing.
