Weir revamps sustainability goals

Ahead of World Environment Day Weir Group has updated its Sustainability Roadmap to help preserve the plant for future generations.

The Weir Group has updated its sustainability roadmap ahead of the 50th World Environment Day on June 5 2022.

The World Environment Day is a globally recognised annual event run by the United Nations Environment Programme since 1973.

This year will see World Environment Day re-energise the slogan ‘Only One Earth’ to emphasise Earth being the only liveable planet we have and to encourage transformative action to balance people and the natural world.

The Weir Group recognises the significance of the day and has updated its Sustainability Roadmap to help preserve the plant for future generations.

The Weir Group launched its roadmap in 2019 and has continued to evolve and adapt it over the last three years.

The company will focus on four key initiatives: championing zero-harm, creating sustainable solutions, reducing our footprint, and nurturing its unique culture.

Their zero-harm initiative will see the Weir Group continue on its mission to become a zero-harm workplace. The company is on its with a total incident rate of 0.45 in 2021.

The Weir Group has also committed to producing more sustainable technologies to reduce the environmental impacts of mining.

A significant step towards this was the acquisition of Motion Metrics in December 2021 to increase industry leadership in creating smarter ways to transform mining technology.

The company has also committed to a 30 per cent reduction in scope 1 & 2 CO2 intensity by 2024 in order to reduce its footprint.

To celebrate its company culture, the Weir Group has highlighted its Weir Pride Alliance (WPA) to celebrate Pride Month in conjunction with World Environment Day.

The WPA launched in June 2021 and is committed to raising visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community while fostering a safe and welcome environment.

“We believe doing this is right for the world and for our business. We have a responsibility, and a shared interest, to create a better future for the world,” the company said.
