Digging for success

Gas and water sectors are speciality areas for excavation companies, requiring a broad mix of operator skills and heavy demands on machinery.

Both gas and water sectors are speciality areas for excavation companies, requiring a broad mix of operator skills and heavy demands on machinery.

Victoria’s Roadbridge Excavation credits their Kobelco range of machines to being able to deliver these demands through their performance, efficiency, and reliability.

The Melbourne-based company has been slowly building up their arsenal of Kobelco machines over the last 15 years, culminating in their most recent purchase of the SK380XDLC excavator.

Roadbridge Excavation’s Ned O’Neill said this was an obvious choice for the company as the machine features a heavier 38 tonne operating weight and extra heavy-duty configuration.

The SK380XDLC is part of Kobelco’s XD range which are built for extreme work environments.

To combat the harsh Australian climates, the XD machines have thicker and strong plates, upper under covers, reinforced guide frames and lower frame underside covers, along with a myriad of other new features.

For O’Neill, it’s the thicker, heavier duty boom on the SK380XDLC that has been a game changer in allowing the team to operate heavy-duty attachments.

O’Neill praised the upgrade for allowing the team to speed up their work and keep clients happy by meeting deadlines and quality assurances.

Another key feature for the company was the comfort and visibility the new machine offers them.

“The removal of vibration and loud noise means even at the end of the day I’m not fatigued both mentally and physically. My production and efficiencies are high with excellent safety throughout the day,” Roadbridge Excavation’s Paddy Corrigan said.

“I originally started working with another brand of machine, but after exploring what Kobelco machines had to offer, it was a combination of price, fuel economy, power/performance and comfort of the Kobelcos which saw me step into my first machine,” O’Neill added.

It was clear from the outset that the SK380XDLC would be the perfect fit for Roadbridge Excavations and the company is excited to see what the future will bring them.

“It’s a positive sign that Kobelco has lifted its game with its larger machines and the industry is taking notice.”
