Caterpillar operator challenge reopens in 2022

Caterpillar has launched its Global Operator Challenge, calling all machine operators to test their excellence in safety and efficiency in 2022-23.

Caterpillar group president of construction industries Tony Fassino said the Challenge would test a range of skills from a range of jurisdictions.

“More than 80 Cat dealers will host local, one-of-a-kind competitions, celebrating equipment operators and enabling them to showcase their exceptional skills in fun and dynamic ways,” Fassino said.

“Whether their expertise lies in digging a trench, moving aggregates or managing demolition, our Global Operator Challenge will be demanding for even the most experienced operators.”

The first round will take place from March to September 2022 and will call on three different skills on three different pieces of equipment.

Caterpillar’s last Global Operator Challenge in 2019-20 saw 67 dealers participate from 30 countries. This year’s challenge will set a new record for the lagest construction industry event of its kind.

Previous champion Jaus Neigum from Alberta, Canada said the 2019-20 Challenge was one of the highlights of his professional career.

“I’ve been operating Cat machines for more than 15 years,” Neigum said.

“Having the opportunity to demonstrate my skills and compete against peers from around the world was one of the most rewarding experiences in my career.

“And, if you’re a business owner like me, I encourage you to put forward your best operators, because this competition is going to be even bigger and better than the last one.”

The second round in October 2022 will bring together first round qualifiers from local events before nine finalists compete for the title in March 2023.

The final round will take place at Caterpillar’s outdoor festival grounds exhibit at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas.

The winner of Caterpillar’s Global Operator Challenge for 2022-23 will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to one of Caterpillar’s global facilities.
