Abandoned quarry dyed black during lockdown

Authorities in the UK’s Peak District are preventing sightseers from visiting the remnants of a limestone quarry that has now been dyed black.

Derbyshire Police have changed the colour of the water in an unused quarry near Buxton to prevent people from flocking to view its unnaturally blue water during the coronavirus lockdown.

After reports of people congregating at the abandoned site, police made the decision to dye the water black.

The quarry pool has a pH level of 11.3 which puts it at a similar level to bleach and ammonia.

However, people still flock to the site for a photo opportunity of the bright blue water.

According to the Independent newspaper, police have previously dyed the water to prevent swimmers from entering.

Warning signs have been previously posted up around the site to inform visitors that the water contains car wrecks, dead animals, excrement and rubbish.

Derbyshire Police have been taking the United Kingdom’s coronavirus lockdown extremely seriously after they used drones to track people visiting the Peak District in late March.
