Track-type tractor eases work, boosts production

Using a 410 net horsepower (306kW) Cat C18 engine with ACERT technology, the D9T boasts an operating weight of 49,900kg. It employs an Enhanced Auto Shift (EAS) system, which, like an automatic transmission, allows users to select forward and reverse speeds. Caterpillar says the model improves production, fuel efficiency and ease of operation.

Other new features on the D9T include a dynamic inclination monitor for pitch angle and an operator-presence system. The dynamic inclination monitor provides readouts of the tractor’s pitch angle and side-to-side slope. The operator-presence system locks out the power train and hydraulic system to avoid unintentional machine movement when the operator is entering or leaving the cab, assisted by redesigned steps, handles and guardrails.

An automatic ripper control, an automated blade assist and an autocarry system are optional extras. The automatic ripper control simplifies the operator’s job by keeping the drawbar load constant and minimisng track slip. In addition, the automated blade assist uses blade-pitch presets to simplify positioning, and the autocarry system automatically adjusts blade load during the carry segment.

The autocarry feature can also be integrated with the optional Cat Grade Control system that automatically guides the blade to achieve design plan contours. Another optional extra for the D9T is the terrain for grading system that can receive electronic site plans in real time to direct cut and fill operations.

The D9T?s cooling system refinements include a redesigned aluminum bar-plate radiator that provides improved durability and corrosion resistance. An air-to-oil hydraulic cooler extends components? lifespan, while a variable-speed demand fan conserves power.

An ?OK-to-Start? ignition system automatically checks the state of the powertrain, engine coolant and oil systems. Likewise, a satellite-linked information management system continuously logs and analyses the machine?s condition.

For operator safety and comfort, Caterpillar has fitted electronic dozer control handles, adjustable arm rests, automatic climate control and a ?Cat Comfort Series Seat?. An available visibility package includes mirrors on the lift cylinders and a ROPS-mounted camera system with an 18cm colour monitor near the rear view mirror. In-cab sound levels are decreased from 79 to 77 decibels and a new dash display, high-current 12-volt connector, IPOD/MP3 wiring and optional window shades add convenience.
