This latest drama comes as a planning appeal by Holcim concluded in Melbourne. The planning appeal for quarry near Chiltern has been initiated by Holcim after the Indigo Council decided to reject the planned quarry during December last year.
A spokesman for the Minister has indicated that no work will be allowed on the site until the last audit has been completed. There are no timelines for the inquiry and all Aboriginal groups would be consulted. He said that the assessment was a separate issue to the appeal.
Glenrowan-based Yorta Yorta and Pangerang man Wally Cooper says it is one of the oldest traditional Aboriginal burial grounds in the region. Cooper, who also has the approval of the Dhuduroa people to speak about the hill, said it was not a secret place but a sacred place.
?It is one of the oldest traditional burial grounds in the district,? he said.
?We are not opposed to mining but this is a sacred hill for our people.?
