With a hole diameter of up to 140mm, the SmartROC C50 combines the high penetration rates of top hammer drilling with superior down the hole drilling. It also offers extremely low fuel consumption.
Boral Construction Materials recently purchased a SmartROC C50 COPROD rig after a three-month trial at its Peppertree Quarry in New South Wales' Hunter Valley. The KPIs set by Boral were for straight holes that could be bore tracked.
The C50 drilled 102mm diameter holes on site under a cost per metre contract. The results were straight holes, faster penetration rates and almost double the longevity on the bits, with up to 10 resharps.
During the trial Boral fitted Epiroc’s Hole Navigation System (HNS) to the rig. HNS requires no mark-up and the user can put the drill plan straight into the rig. After the trial Boral purchased the HNS along with the SmartROC C50.
Epiroc will be on Booth 9 at the IQA’s annual conference at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong, from 1 to 3 October.
