Knighthood for IQA Fellow

HRH Prince Charles knighted him during his recent visit to PNG to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of HRH Queen Elizabeth.

Constantinou, originally from Queensland but now based in Port Moresby, is the managing director of Monier (PNG) Ltd. Monier is a leading supplier of quarry products, including natural sand, premix concrete, masonry products, concrete pipes and precast concrete products in Port Moresby.

The company also owns a building and development division and a plastic water tank operation and employs about 360 people.

Constantinou also has other business interests, some shared with his brother, Kostas, and between them they employ 2800 people. He has been involved in the quarrying business with the Constantinou family business since leaving school.

Constantinou has a strong interest in the welfare of the PNG people and has set up a health clinic. He and Monier have also had an avid interest in promoting and sponsoring young people in a range of different sports.

On 13 November, 2012, Constantinou and work colleague Brian Condon, who is the general manager of Monier, presented a cheque for three million kina ($AUD1.4 million) to PNG Rugby Union for the promotion of the game throughout the country.

The same amount was given to PNG Cricket a couple of years ago through Monier?s sister company Hebou Constructions, and benefits are being realised by the sport as the Hebou Barramundis have moved inside the top 20 cricket nations.

Because of his contribution to charities, sports and business in Papua New Guinea, George was made a Knight Bachelor in the Queen?s Birthday Honours.
