Horizontal vibratory screen to make Hillhead debut

Superior Industries, the US-based manufacturer and global supplier of bulk material processing systems, will launch a new horizontal vibratory screen at Hillhead 2018 later this month. The Guardian triple-shaft, adjustable oval stroke design was engineered and built with customer feedback to more accurately size and separate material than an incline screen.

The Guardian horizontal screen can be used in a portable application or as a stand-alone product in a fixed plant operation. It is typically used in finer screening applications that are horizontal or not more inclined than 2.5 degrees. According to Superior, the distinguishing features of the Guardian are:

  • Patent-pending bottle jack lifting points, which simplify and speed spring replacement and improve safety. No crane is required.

  • Segmented belt guard and tailgate sections that greatly lighten the loads of these two features, requiring only one person to remove and replace for maintenance.

  • Bolt-locking, hinged access doors that are exclusive to Superior, and new to the industry. This feature allows easier access for screen media maintenance and the hinges prevent operators from misplacing the spillage-preventing doors.

  • A 100 per cent fully enclosed belt guard that ensures maximum safety while an integrated, on-board tensioner accelerates maintenance to the motor belt.

Superior was really quick to respond with service and parts."-WHO:Jason Starr, Anderson Brothers Construction’s plant operations manager}}Superior designs and manufactures its Guardian horizontal screens in two-, three- and four-deck configurations for 1.5m x 4.8m (5’ x 16’), 1.8m x 4.8m (6’ x 16’), 1.8m x 6m (6’ x 20’), 2m x 6m (7’ x 20’) and 2.4m x 6m (8’ x 20’) models. Each unit is equipped with spray bar knockout holes for quick conversion to wet processing applications.

A three-deck Guardian horizontal screen has been utilised by Anderson Brothers Construction, in Pillager, Minnesota. The 73-year-old family business manages three gravel pits, produces concrete recycling and recycled asphalt materials, and provides a range of other services, including earthworks, site developments, maintenance, and paving of driveways, roads and streets.

Anderson Brothers Construction’s plant operations manager Jason Starr said the company had a five-year lease on one of its gravel pits, and wants to “get as much rock out of there as we can in that time”.

The quarry specialises in generating a 38mm wash material, a 12mm spec rock and dust.

Starr said the Guardian horizontal screen was being used to separate out the sand from the aggregate and sort the rock to the ideal size. He described the machine’s performance to date as “phenomenal”.

“We haven’t had any major or minor issues,” he said. “Superior was really quick to respond with service and parts.”

Superior Industries is also taking its Spirit modular washing and classifying sand plant and Alliance low water washer to Hillhead.

In Australia, Superior Industries plant and equipment is available through 888 Crushing & Screening Equipment.
