Hollywood star oversees excavator boot camp

Lundgren, who appeared in Hollywood films Rocky IV, Universal Soldier and The Expendables, drives the action in a cinematic display of man versus machine.

Shot in a quarry outside Eskilstuna, Sweden, the Volvo excavators get put to the test by Lundgren as the drill instructor. To the beat of the 1989 hit song Pump Up The Jam, the unusual team of athletes perform exercises such as pull-ups, tyre flips and side-to-side rotations.

The machines are seen pulling Lundgren atop a huge concrete block through the desert, flipping gigantic tyres across a muddy track and taking part in what is thought to be the world’s first excavator pull-up.

“This is a good demonstration of the flexibility and strength of our excavators, from the small to the mighty,” said Bill Law, senior vice president of corporate communications at Volvo CE. “The result is a feel-good mini movie with Hollywood impact.”

A special behind the scenes video (see below) reveals how Volvo CE personnel pulled off all the stunts.
