Caltex innovations for mining

Caltex TecDiesel Advantage includes new diesel products as well as fuel filtering processes, site-specific engineering solutions and a fuel saving low viscosity engine oil.
Caltex Acting general manager marketing and distribution Leo Pucar said the Caltex TecDiesel Advantage program was designed to help mining and commercial transport operators improve productivity and reduce costs.
Orbital Corporation in Western Australia used a six-cylinder common-rail Cummins QSK19 turbo-diesel to provide local independent testing.
The engine?s performance, power output, fuel flow and consumption were measured with tests showing up to 78% recovery in lost power and complete restoration of lost fuel flow through injectors with the new Active TecD fuel.
According to Caltex fuel consumption gradually increases over many hours during the deposit formation phase, this trend does not occur when using Caltex Active TecD diesel fuel.
?With an increasing focus on maintenance costs, rectifying these issues continues to place pressure on the bottom lines of businesses, at a time when reducing costs and maximising machine utilisation rates has never been more important,? Pucar said.
Caltex also launched Clean TecD, a fuel filtered to exceed cleanliness levels recommended by the Worldwide Fuel Charter by removing more microscopic abrasive particles compared with conventional diesel fuel.
A new low viscosity diesel engine oil called Delo 400 XLE Synblend 10W-30 has been released as part of the program to reduce fuel consumption in modern diesel engines.
An integral part of the Caltex TecDiesel Advantage program is a specialist team of service engineers, the Caltex Engineering Solutions (CES) team, who can check the cleanliness of a fuel chain from tank to bowser.
They identify the type and location of any contamination, develop strategies to eliminate the cause and put in place follow-up procedures to ensure the fuel is clean at all times.
