Agitator benefits from new safety feature

The latest in more than 4000 design modifications and additions that have been made to Iveco’s ACCO truck range over the years is the introduction of electronic stability control (ESC). The feature will be rolled out across all ACCO models in future but it will first be seen in the 5.1m wheelbase 8×4 Agitator variant of the ACCO truck.

“Initial adoption on the agitator spec cab chassis was seen as a priority given the high centre of gravity nature of agitator work,” an Iveco press release explained.

The ACCO ESC system incorporates a steering sensor on the steering wheel and, when combined with a chassis-mounted YAW sensor, helps to keep all wheels on the road in emergency turning or swerve situations.

Increased reliability and a new look

The ACCO range has also received a number of aesthetic and functional revisions to its cab. Iveco stated in the press release that by adapting elements from the design of some of its other truck ranges, the Stralis and Trakker, the cab had gained a “modern and muscular appearance”.

Other new features that were said to have improved upon the range include: the incorporation of a three-piece steel bumper design, which will make parts replacement more cost-effective; an improved stone shield that will better protect the truck’s underbody, making the truck more reliable; the revision of the external mirror mounts for easier adjustment and longevity; and upgrades to the dual control models’ mitre box, which now incorporates a sealed roller bearing in lieu of needle bearing leading for greater lubrication and lower friction.

New side deflectors, Stralis headlights and bumped-encased indicators have also been added to the range.

Commenting on the upgrades, Iveco product manager Joel Read said, “While Iveco engineers have introduced many new improvements in the latest release, certain aspects about the ACCO – qualities that have worked year after year – remain unchanged.

“The development and testing phase has been extremely thorough and we’re very confident that the latest range will take the ACCO’s performance to a new level in terms of functionality, reliability and safety.”

Benefits of a local presence

Read stated that due to the fact that the range is manufactured within Australia, with replacement items readily available and customisation an option, customers would benefit from fast vehicle delivery times, lower overall costs and reduced downtime.

“Over 78,000 ACCO units have been produced at [Iveco’s] Dandenong factory since the first model was released commercially in 1961,” he said. “Iveco expects the new ACCO range to be very warmly received by both existing and new customers.”

Iveco – a brand of CNH Industrial, a UK-based multinational equipment manufacturer and distributor – designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles and off-road trucks.
