New talent to enhance quarrying institute

Well it’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the end of the year with the AFL and NRL footy seasons having come to a close and Bathurst just around the corner. It’s an annual reminder that the festive season is almost upon us.

It’s often a busy time for the IQA as well, with a number of events being held. Last month we held the Construction Materials Industry Conference in Sydney in conjunction with Cement Concrete Aggregates Australia and I trust those able to attend got value from their attendance and the quality speakers program. The innovation day on the Wednesday of the conference was again a success with a number of high quality and practical presentations being given to conference delegates. A big thanks to our conference sponsors, exhibitors and delegates for making CMIC 18 another successful joint conference with the CCAA.

At CMIC 18, I was pleased to hand out a number of IQA awards. I congratulate all the award recipients, along with all those who took the time to prepare a submission and showcase some of the great initiatives and people within the industry. I look forward to seeing many award winners presenting at their local branches and sharing information for the industry to learn from.

I also thank the industry for supporting the pledge and continuing not only the commitment of the members but also of the IQA to provide value to the industry and also the companies who support their employees through membership, professional development and training.

This month we also welcome our new chief executive officer Kylie Fahey to the organisation. Kylie brings with her more than 15 years’ experience as a senior executive working across civil construction, education (vocational and private higher education), property development and health. Her previous role of eight years was as CEO for a group of education companies, including registered training organisations and private higher education.

Kylie has qualifications as a Master of Business and Bachelor of Arts (Health Sciences), along with Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and she is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Kylie will commence her position on Monday 22 October, 2018 and will be based in Brisbane. Please make Kylie feel welcome when she joins the organisation.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of Paul Sutton. On behalf of the Board and membership, I thank Paul for his eight years of service in the role of General Manager and more recently CEO and the contribution he has made, not only to the IQA, but also in lifting the professional development offering and standards across the extractive industry sector. I wish Paul all the very best in his future endeavours.
