Former quarry given new luxury address

Developer Jim Simpson spent six years planning and constructing the gated 16-house residential community named Bluestone Lake, which will lie adjacent to the once used quarry.

Real estate agent Ash Brown, whose rental agency is responsible for selling the Bluestone Lake properties, said the historic quarry had provided bluestone to the Orange community for many years but had closed several years ago, leaving Orange City Council unsure what to do with it.

“Every house in Orange would have stone from this quarry; this is where they got it all from,” he said.

Brown said he had already received expressions of interest to purchase the houses within the gated community.

“It’ a bit of an unknown, we haven’t had a development like this,” he explained.

“The owner is extremely happy with how it’s developing, and we look forward to further progress over the next couple of months.”

The general public was given its first glimpse into the Bluestone Lake community in January and were informed on possible arising issues such as maintenance fees.

“Everyone who owns a block will contribute to a fund, which is an upkeep and maintenance fund,” Brown added.

According to reports in the Central Western Daily, construction on the first four houses will commence this month. Stage one is expected to begin from March to April.

It is expected the residential estate will be complete by the end of 2018.
