  • Works with customers to achieve product solutions for each project.
  • Provides material for large and small jobs, delivered when and where it is needed.
  • Uses a computerised order tracking system to ensure orders are correct and delivered on time.
  • Is a market leader in quality quarry products supplied throughout SA and Victoria.
  • Is certified to ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems.
  • Is certified to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

Penrice Quarry & Mineral provides an extensive range of quarry materials to the SA market. This range includes poultry grit, 3mm-50mm aggregates, gabion, shot rock, paving sands, sand/metal mix, scalps and fill.

Penrice also provides its trademarked Penlime to the SA agricultural industry and manufactures very large volumes of roadbase to SA Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure specifications. It is a supplier of high quality roadbase to the SA construction industry, civil contractors, state and local government, and local landscaping depots.

Penrice’s recent projects have included the $985 million, 15km, six-lane Northern Connector project, the $864 million, 5km Urban Superway, and the $596 million, 23km, four-lane, two-way Northern Expressway.

The ongoing high demand for Penrice’s roadbase class of products – PM1/20QG, PM1/20QM (performance-based), PM2 and PM3 – and its 20mm and 40mm, and cement-stabilised products prompted the company to consider alternative processing equipment options to complement its core fixed crushing plant operations.

Several equipment suppliers were engaged to provide options, and after carrying out a detailed analysis of the equipment available, Penrice placed an order for a Metso LT1315 Lokotrack.

The Lokotrack LT1315 combines a constant high crushing capacity, a broad range of process options and operator friendliness with the latest dust and noise reduction options. It is ideal for high capacity contracting jobs due to its low transport height, which enables easy transport on a standard trailer.

The LT1315 is built around the Nordberg NP1315 impactor, which can crush medium hard rock types such as limestone, plus all rock-based recycled materials. The NP crushers feature a large feed opening to avoid bridging, a unique triple-wedge hammer retention system for simple and quick locking of wedges, and heavy-duty construction for a long, reliable service life.

At 60 tonnes, this unit is big enough for a 700mm maximum feed lump size but mobile enough to easily be tracked around the quarry site. It provides flexible processing options depending on demand. At the time of writing Penrice’s LT1315 has exceeded 19,800 hours.

Naturally, after nearly 20,000 hours of primary crushing, this unit does not have all of its original components, but it shows what a well-engineered product and a proactive maintenance team can achieve in partnership.

“We have had good performance from our Metso,” Penrice ’s quarry manager Lane Collins said. “It’s the best gear and lasts a long time if you look after it, which our dedicated maintenance team do. We schedule a day a fortnight and a week or two every six months to make sure we keep it running well.”

Tutt Bryant Equipment, the nationwide distributor for Metso mobile crushers and screens, continues to support Penrice Quarry & Mineral with spare parts, consumables and tech support as required.
