?Industry first? partnership improves fire safety

The partnership involved the signing of a national supply agreement between fire protection specialist Wormald and heavy machinery supplier Komatsu Australia.

Under the agreement, Wormald will be responsible for the design, supply, risk assessment and commissioning of fire suppression systems for most of Komatsu’s mobile quarrying, mining and construction equipment.

The fire suppression systems will be supplied directly to Komatsu and fitted by technicians at the assembly stage. Wormald will also supply the manufacturer with fire extinguishers for its mobile plant.

Scott Meekin, the business development manager for Wormald’s Queensland and Northern Territory mining division, stated that some operators were hesitant about installing vehicle fire suppression systems, even though they could significantly reduce the damage of a fire.

“This partnership will make it easier for mine and construction operators to integrate high quality and reliable vehicle fire suppression systems onto mobile equipment at the point of purchase,” he explained. “Our combined experience in manufacturing and servicing heavy-duty mobile equipment and products positions us well to meet the evolving safety needs of the mining and construction industries.”

Komatsu Australia’s general manager of procurement, Gerry Tessier, added that the partnership would “greatly enhance” the safety of Komatsu mobile equipment.

“We welcome the partnership with Wormald and look forward to working with a leading brand that values quality, reliability and efficiency as much as Komatsu does,” he said.
