Smartphone app for managing machinery

For some time, Komatsu customers have been able to remotely access important machinery fleet details from their computers via the company’s satellite monitoring system KOMTRAX. Komatsu has now extended this functionality to Apple iPhones in the form of an app.

Todd Connolly, Komatsu Australia’s head of fleet management and information and communication technology, explained that the new KOMTRAX app enables customers to monitor critical machine operating parameters as well as usage, performance and location, and to manage their overall fleet.

“By providing customers with valuable information about their Komatsu machines, it helps get a quick overview of what machines in their fleet have been up to – all via their iPhone,” Connolly said.

Users of the app will be able to gain driving directions to a machine, identify machine idle time, monitor fuel consumption, see an overview of any cautions triggered on machines (including when they occurred), identify machines that have lost communication, check on significant machine movements, and see which machines have not been used. All of the app’s features can also be customised to show information across a specific time period, from one day up to a month.

“Komatsu’s KOMTRAX remote monitoring system … has become an important contributor in driving down owning and operating costs of Komatsu equipment, letting us work with our customers to ensure machines are maintained and operated to achieve optimum performance, reliability and uptime,” Connolly said.

“By combining KOMTRAX with the latest smartphone technology, customers are now able to monitor, check and manage their Komatsu equipment at any time of the day or night, from anywhere in the world.”

The KOMTRAX app can be downloaded for free from the Komatsu Australia website.
