From May to October, monthly winners are announced across ten categories for the annual Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards. The Nucrush Group, which operates in south east Queensland, won the manufacturing and construction category for the month of June earlier this year, and at an awards gala evening held on Saturday, 29 November at Jupiters Hotel and Casino, the building material supplier beat five other monthly winners to be named the best manufacturing and construction business of the year.
Nucrush CEO Declan Mackle was presented with the award by Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister for Industry Bob Baldwin, who was representing the category’s sponsor, AusIndustry.
Commenting on the value of the awards, Baldwin said, “[They] are an important incentive for business excellence because they recognise and reward the vital contribution by enterprises to the regional economy.”
Baldwin highlighted Nucrush’s contribution to the Gold Coast, explaining that the business had been serving a range of customers in the region’s building and construction industry since 1966, including house builders, commercial and industrial contractors, local government and swimming pool manufacturers.
“They employ 100 people, have eight concrete plants and operate a high quality hard rock quarry and a sand processing facility,” Baldwin added.
Speaking to Quarry, Mackle said Nucrush Group was very pleased to have received the award. “We have provided premixed concrete and quarry products to the Gold Coast region for over 40 years, and recognition such as this is a testament to the combined efforts of all our employees, both past and present,” he said.
“As an independent, family-owned business, we appreciate the value of our employees, our customer needs and the expectations of the community in which we operate. This is encompassed in our company motto ‘Together we grow’. This recognition will help support and reinforce our objective to continuously seek improvement opportunities.”
Nucrush comprises two main businesses – it supplies quarry and natural stone products through Nucrush while producing and delivering pre-mixed concrete through its other business, Nucon. It is owned by the Neumann family and is based in Upper Coomera, Queensland.
