Metso sells industrial belt ops

Parts of Metso?s industrial rubber conveyor belt manufacturing and related sales and services operations will be sold. The price of the transaction will not be disclosed.
The industrial rubber conveyor belt manufacturing, sales and services locations in Finland will be divested to ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group. The Lutze Group will take on Metso?s industrial rubber conveyor belt sales and service locations in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Norway and in southern Sweden.
The operations to be sold consist of 27 locations, with around 340 employees that were part of Metso?s Mining and Construction segment. According to Metso, the divested sales and service operations serve industries other than mining and construction.
Through this divestment Metso aims to develop and simplify its current production capacity in Europe and improve its competitiveness. Completion of sale is expected to occur in the last quarter of this year and will have no material impact on Metso?s financial performance.
Win for conveyor manufacturers
The ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group is a business unit under the ContiTech Division of automotive supplier Continental AG, a supplier of technical rubber products and a specialist in plastics technology.
The scope of the transaction includes a production plant in Kalkku, Finland, where ContiTech will continue to manufacture conveyor belts for use in quarries and the ore industry.  ContiTech also acquired the related sales and service locations in Finland.
In total, ContiTech will take over approximately 130 Metso employees.
“The acquisition strengthens ContiTech’s industrial business and is the perfect complement to the Conveyor Belt Group’s current range of industrial conveyor belts and special belts,? Hans-J?rgen Duensing, head of the ContiTech Conveyor Belt Group business unit, said.
“Our objective is to continue and further develop activities at the plant in Finland and gain access to new customer groups in the Scandinavian markets.”
In 2010, ContiTech took over business activities involving Flexowell and Pocketlift conveyor belts from Metso.
The Lutze Group is a family owned business with two industrial sectors. The conveyor business of Lutze F?rdertechnik deals with conveyor belts and spray coat wear protection. Lutze Kunststofftechnik also engineers and manufactures polyurethane parts for wear protection in its plant in Germany.
