In August 2012, Mt Mercer Windfarm Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Meridian Energy Australia, entered an agreement for the supply and installation of 64 REpower MM92 wind turbines. In January this year, Downer EDI began construction on the internal access tracks, to be ready for the delivery and erection of the first turbines by August 2013. February saw the completion of the temporary site compound.
Downer EDI contracted Mansfield Constructions to establish the Mt Mercer Quarry within the wind farm site. The quarry is now producing good quality material for the construction of the wind farm roads, hardstands, foundations and general site fill. More than 14km of internal access roads have now been graded and covered, allowing construction traffic access to most areas of the site. The quarry will reduce the number of truck movements of aggregate along the local and arterial road network by about 5000 over the construction period.
To fulfil its contract to operate the quarry and produce and supply the road materials, Mansfield Constructions approached the Lincom Group to supply the required crushing and screening expertise. The equipment purchased included a Powerscreen XA400S jaw crusher, a Powerscreen 2100X deck screen and a Powerscreen Maxtrak 1000 cone crusher for the production of up to 2000 tonnes per day of road construction materials.
The Powerscreen X400S range of high performance primary jaw crushers are designed for medium scale operations in recycling, quarrying, demolition and mining applications. The XA400S is an extremely versatile crusher that can be used in various applications. With its hydraulic setting adjustment, the XA400S allows the size of product to be changed at the press of a button, minimising the need for downtime.
The XR400S is from the same series and is the perfect choice for recycling on primary applications. The hydraulic release jaw fitted to this crusher will sense an overload and open when required to protect against serious damage.
The high performance Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher has been designed for direct feed applications without pre-screening on clean rock. At the heart of the Maxtrak is the Automax cone crusher, with hydraulic setting, tramp release and unblocking system. Its unique crushing action provides excellent capacity, high reduction and good product cubicity for the production of high quality aggregate and sub-base materials. A level probe over the feed ring regulates the feed belt to ensure the Automax is choke-fed, essential for maximum reduction, manganese life and optimal product shape.
The Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X is designed for the larger scale operators who require large volumes of high specification products. Specially designed for fine product separation, the Chieftain 2100X is capable of producing 600 tph. The Chieftain 2100X?s features include a high capacity hopper, belt feeder, radio-controlled tipping grid and a two-bearing screen with adjustable screen amplitude and hydraulic screen angle adjustment.
The triple deck version of this machine also carries a patented hydraulically folding recirculating conveyor, eliminating the need for a crane on-site. The 2100X also features oil bath lubricated twin bearing screenboxes, hydraulic screen tensioning, screen walkways and access ladder and an engine protection shutdown system.
