Newcastle to host mining and engineering show

M&E NSW will be held at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre from 28 to 30 August, 2012 and is being organised by Reed Mining Events.
“Since 1991, previous editions of M&E NSW have been held every four years in the Upper Hunter, with the last one in Muswellbrook in 2009,? Paul Baker, exhibition director of Reed Mining Events, explained. ?However, this year we have decided to move it to Newcastle for a number of reasons.
“Newcastle is recognised as the industry hub for the NSW Hunter coalfields, with a large proportion of the sector?s mining engineering services and support based in and around the city,” he said.
“In addition, a significant portion of the workforce and mine management are based around Newcastle and the surrounding region, including Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens ? so the Newcastle Entertainment Centre is a central location to attract key visitors.
“Before deciding on the move, we carried out an in-depth research project ? including surveying our M&E NSW exhibitors and visitors, who clearly indicated that their preference was for the event to be based in Newcastle.”
Baker said that M&E NSW 2012 would be held at a time when there is increased demand throughout the NSW mining industry for equipment, services and support packages from suppliers and contractors.
Frontline workers from the region are being encouraged to attend.
“They play a vital role in selecting equipment because they operate, maintain and work with it on a daily basis and their insights and opinions are of critical interest, not only to senior mine management, but also to suppliers and service providers,? he said.
“Increasingly, mining companies are empowering their frontline personnel to become involved in equipment and services specifying and selection because they appreciate the valuable knowledge and experience they bring to the decision-making process,” Baker said.
