Made of rubber and carrying the white sands of Cottesloe Beach, the replica mining dump truck sculpture fittingly called ?Dump? won the prize over 30 other exhibitors.
Caporn said his ?Dump? sculpture was prompted by the premise that ?overloading a system eventually leads to its failure?, as the little truck appears to be overfilled and not coping. This was a dig at the WA resources boom.
Part of Mr Caporn?s prize involves him taking his bright yellow dump truck to Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi, New South Wales, which will be held in October 2012.
Last year more than 200,000 people viewed the sculptures displayed on Cottesloe beach. This year another 70 artists will show their works in this free exhibition.
Sculpture by the Sea runs until March 19.
