Holcim lauded for environmental performance

The concrete and aggregates organisation was lauded for demonstrating leadership and its commitment to create sustainable change in the Canadian aggregate sector. The awards singled out Holcim for its ?best in class social and environmental practices?, and for ?aligning its corporate strategy with balancing the triple bottom line of economic growth, environmental performance and social responsibility?.

Holcim?s work in advancing sustainable construction through initiatives addressing progressive rehabilitation, environmental management, property enhancements and community relations also contributed to it winning the Senior Corporate Individual and Team awards in the category of Large Business ? Resource, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas.

“We are honoured to be recognised for our efforts in advancing sustainable construction solutions and our focus on community engagement,? said Bill Galloway, vice president of Holcim Canada. ?Receiving two Excellence in Corporate Responsibility Awards shows that our ‘triple bottom line’ approach is aligned with the vision of Canada’s leading sustainable business experts.?

One of Holcim Canada?s sustainable initiatives was setting up a not-for-profit organisation to create, administer and promote widespread support for the certification of responsibly sourced construction materials, Socially and Environmentally Responsible Aggregate Canada (SERA).

Created in cooperation with Environmental Defence, SERA aims to engage industry members and stakeholders in an effort to set ?high but achievable? standards for the aggregate sector.

Holcim has operations in over 70 countries, including Australia.
