Public comment period open for model WHS laws

Tom Phillips AM, chairman of Safe Work Australia, has announced the commencement of the public comment period on the draft model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and priority model Codes of Practice.

Safe Work Australia is currently working with the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments to deliver harmonised work health and safety laws across Australia.

Tom Phillips said the public comment period provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to participate in the development of the model WHS Regulations and priority model Codes of Practice and ensure their voices are heard.

The suite of documents for public comment includes an exposure draft of the model WHS Regulations, priority model Codes of Practice and an Issues Paper.

Public submissions must be sent to submissions@safeworkaustralia.gov.au by no later than 4 April, 2011.
