Compact rig for smaller quarries

At Bauma 2010 in Munich in April, Sandvik displayed the first DI550 down the hole (DTH) drill rig. The new machine offers productivity and user comfort in 5? hammer drilling.

Small and medium sized quarries and contractors must continuously improve productivity in their operations. The selection of the right machine is of utmost importance. The DI550 is a DTH drilling rig that features a 324kW diesel engine and a 24.4m3 compressor air flow at 24 bar pressure, making the machine a perfect match for the 5? DTH hammer. This careful balance of power and hammer size results in a rig that conserves fuel and reduces operating costs. Cost-effective machine performance is further enhanced by active diesel RPM control, optimised diesel RPM level during drilling and active control of compressor running temperature.

COMFORTABLE OPERATOR ENVIRONMENT
The DI550 has a modern control system with simple icon displays and comprehensive service information and the rig has a modern, over-pressurised and ROPS and FOPS-certified cab with advanced ergonomics, efficient air conditioning and excellent visibility. The windshield has a strong safety bar that is easy to open for cleaning.

A new, efficient dust collector restricts the amount of dust emissions into the environment. The dust collector also improves filter lifetime, which reduces the need for maintenance. Other features that translate into easy maintenance and low downtime include the open layout of the engine compartment, easy cooler cleaning, modular compressor control system and a simplified electric system. All maintenance points are located at ground level to improve the safety of service personnel. A fast fuel filling option and large fuel tank cut costly downtime.

TOP HAMMER SOLUTIONS
The DI550 is designed to work at maximum performance when fitted with RH550 hammers in sizes from 3? to 5?. The RH550 hammers have three different bit face designs ranging from 90?152mm.

The Sandvik DI550 will be released into the drilling market in the fourth quarter of 2010. A new feed and rotary head will be launched at the same time.
