The Galli family enjoys a long ?involvement in the quarry industry. The late Lorenzo and Michael Galli were involved in major Victorian road building projects in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Wallan to Broadford section of the Hume Freeway.
Galli?s Kilmore East quarry, 60km north of Melbourne, is a substantial deposit of high quality basalt and produces and supplies a full range of quarry products for the Melbourne and local markets. The material is utilised for high strength concrete, sealing aggregate, asphaltic concrete and road base.
The quality of Galli?s material has been ?recognised on significant construction projects.Grocon, builder of Melbourne?s Rialto building, sourced aggregates from Galli Quarries to manufacture high strength concrete for the construction of Melbourne?s tallest buildingEureka at Southbank. The strength and shape of Galli?s aggregates allowed Grocon to produce strengths in excess of 100mpa.
Galli purchased two Volvo L180E front end loaders from CJD Equipment in 2006 and 2007 and recently added a Volvo EC700C excavator to its Kilmore East operations.
The L180E loaders are used for blending, stockpiling and sales loading of the final product onto trucks for delivery to customers. A strong point of the L180E is Volvo?s unique patented load frame, known as ?Torque Parallel? (TP) linkage, which minimises spillage when loading or carrying stockpiles. The TP lift arm gives optimal breakout torque and parallel movement throughout the entire liftingrange, keeping the bucket parallel to the ground while it is being lifted so there is less spillage during load and haul across the site.
The EC700C is utilised for loading shot rock at the quarry face. It has a 316 kW Volvo Tier 3/Stage IIIA compliant engine with Volvo Advanced Combustion Technology, offering high torque at low revs and low fuel consumption. The advanced hydraulic system is suited to smooth, responsive digging and lifting.
The EC700C loads two 40 tonne dump trucksthat haul to the primary crusher. It also strips overburden and does general excavation workin the quarry. It has a robust undercarriage with reinforced superstructure and boom/arm to resist daily wear and tear.
Galli quarry manager Gerard Kelly said the EC700C was well matched to the dump trucks from a size and capacity perspective, with each truck being loaded in five passes. ?It is a robust machine with excellent digging power and good fuel economy.?
