FM truck range refitted with new 11 litre engine

Volvo Trucks has launched a new 11 litre engine for its FM truck range.

The FM?s increased load capacity makes it suitable for weight sensitive applications such as general cargo, bulk, tanker and regional distribution.

?The 11 litre version of the Volvo FM is the premium fleet truck for weight sensitiveapplications. It combines a powerful driveline, high driver comfort and optimised load capacity,? said Gary Bone, general manager of Volvo Trucks. The 11 litre engine is about 140kg lighter than the larger D13 engine. This allows for high load capacity. The D11 engine also offers high performance and fuel efficiency.
Mr Bone said the D11 engine had been designed to meet both Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards with the help of SCR exhaust gas treatment. It will be launched in two versions:
?    The D11B, which is Euro 4 compliant and is available in 350, 390 and 430hp outputs.
?    The D11C, which is Euro 5 compliant and is available in 330, 370, 410, and 450 hp options.
The engine provides a high power output at low and high engine revs. Its economy range is between 1050 and 1500 rpm, and 95 per cent of the maximum torque is available within this range.

?The 11 litre engine is exceptionally strong and a pleasure to drive,? said Mr Bone. ?We?ve combined it with our market leading I-shift automated gearbox as the standard driveline package on the primemovers models. This makes a D11 powered FM both comfortable and fuel efficient to drive.?

The 11 litre Volvo FM has an upgraded exterior with new headlamps, sun visors andGlobetrotter sign. The cab interior has been redesigned to provide optimum conditions for safe driving and flexible storage.

The Volvo FM with 11 litre engine is available as either a 4 x 2, 6 x 4, and 8 x 4 configuration. It has a gross combination weight capacity of up to 50 tonnes.
