Oil quality key to cost saving

An oil centrifuge, combined with a quality oil ?sampling programme, will reduce annual running costs by $4000 on a typical diesel powered transport ?vehicle. Even greater long-term savings are produced through extending engine life and using premium grade oils.?
This is the view of Laurie Hyland, a transport ?industry expert who has been researching the effects of clean oil on diesel engines for 40 years. He says a Spinner centrifuge will give an ?operator the next best return on engine investment after fuel and oil.

According to Mr Hyland, centrifuges provide an ?immediate, ?realistic and measurable cost reduction while ?extending the ?working life of engine oil and full flow filter ?cartridges. ?We often see reports that show cleaner oil at double the kilometres than before a Spinner is fitted,? Mr Hyland said.

?These savings are supported by research from the Society of Automobiles Engineers (SAE). Low emission regulations have contributed to the development of engines that don?t pollute the atmosphere, but can cause excess oil/soot-related engine wear. This is due to combustion process residue – primarily soot – being channelled into the engine?s oil.?

SAE has proven that 75 per cent of engine wear is caused by ?millions of particles smaller than seven microns, but ?full-flow truck filters seldom filter particles to less than 38 ?microns. The Spinner oil centrifuge removes oil contaminants as small as 0.05 microns.
Fitting a Spinner oil centrifuge can double oil change ?intervals within most OEM oil quality warranty contaminant requirements. This reduces oil cost, filters, equipment downtime, labour and the cost of dumping oil and filters by 50 per cent. ?With a Spinner, you throw away soot and dirt; no cartridge to purchase or dispose of, or oil top-up,? said Mr Hyland.

Operators are now analysing opportunities to save money. ?By fitting centrifuges they can maintain their assets in peak condition, enhancing whole of life engine productivity,? he said.

Mr Hyland said the Spinner oil centrifuge has been shown by transport businesses to significantly reduce premature wear in turbochargers, compressors, engine brakes and other internal ?components. This means that distances of over 1.6 million kilometres are now common before an engine overhaul is needed.
