Age diversity is nothing new but today the workplace is influenced by demographic and societal changes that mean we are now working with more generations than ever before. As managers and supervisors, we need to develop an understanding of the different generational perspectives to improve teamwork, communication and understanding. This PDP has been developed for anyone keen to improve their effectiveness by understanding the key motivators and drivers from a generational perspective. Topics will include Australia’s generational profile, the characteristics of generational groups (eg Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y), the introduction of Generation Z, key motivators of each group, common areas of conflict, balancing the generational mix, and strategies for promoting workplace cohesion and intergenerational respect.

The main purpose of this PDP is to define the various types of crushing and grinding equipment available, describe their operational parameters and provide insight into machine selection, with the benefits and disadvantages of each type for particular applications. The course is suitable for newcomers to the industry and those progressing into plant and quarry management to understand the types of equipment they are likely to encounter, as well as how to optimise their use. Participants will learn about crusher types (eg jaws, gyratory crushers, cones, roll crushers, HSIs, VSIs, mineral sizers, hammer mills, active implant crushers), crushing definitions, crusher selection, crushing stages and crushing actions. The course is suitable for newcomers to the industry and those progressing into plant and quarry management to understand the types of equipment they are likely to encounter, as well as how to optimise their use. Participants will learn about the different types of feeders (eg vibrating grizzly, reciprocating tray, plate apron, wobbler, vibrating pan, belt), the principles of screening and the types of screens (eg inclined vibrating, horizontal vibrating, variable ellipse, banana, omniscreens, resonance and high speed screens, probability screens, trommels, dewatering screens). Having looked at individual components – crushers , feeders and screens, washing, dewatering, silt/slimes treatments and conveyors – this PDP reviews the complete plant. This can never be a straightforward process, as any individual plant will be configured to cater for the type of material, market needs, funds available and individual experiences of those responsible for the design and procurement process. These, and other issues, will be looked at in more detail as the PDP progresses through the plant design process. Whilst there are several other systems available for the transportation of materials between process stages, and stockpiling of products, it is the belt conveyor type which predominates in quarries and mines and this section of the course will relate to this system only. The course is suitable for newcomers to the industry and those progressing into plant and quarry management to understand the types of equipment they are likely to encounter, as well as how to optimise their use. Participants will learn about conveyor systems, conveyor assembly, belts, drums, idlers, skirts, scrapers, drives, tensioning and tracking systems, stringers and overland conveyors.
